Also, we could chose to do the project "What is creativity?" with RB. After that we got in groups, and started thinking of our project.

Question for Official

What is your job like, and what do you do?

Three Branches in Government

Legislative:
The legislative branch is the branch for congress. The two branches of congress, The Senate and The House of Representatives, decide on laws for the U.S. The Senate is made up of 100 members with 2 from each state. A senator must be at least 30 years old, live in the state that they are chosen for, and a citizen for at least 9 years. Senators are also elected every 6 years. The House of Representatives is made up of 435 people. A state with more population will have more members than a state with less population. Every state has at least one representative, and a representative is elected every 2 years. A representative must live in the state they were chosen for, be 25 years of age, and must have been a citizen for 7 years at least.

Executive:
The president is the head of the executive branch. The president gets help from the vice president, and the cabinet members which they decide on. The cabinet members are: The secretary of labor, the secretary of state, the attorney general, the secretary of defense, the secretary of agriculture, the secretary of commerce, the secretary of treasury, the secretary of interior, the secretary of transportation, the secretary of education, the national security advisor, the director of homeland security, the environmental protection agency, and the health and human services. The president approves laws and bills, and when the congress sends him a law or bill he can approve or veto it. When he vetos a bill or law the congress can still approve the law, but only if 2/3 of the members vote yes. The president cannot write bills, but can propose them for a member to submit it. The president is the head of state, the chief of government, and the head of the U.S. military. He must be at least 35 years old, a natural born U.S. citizen, and have lived in the U.S. for 14 years.

Judicial:
The supreme court is made up of nine people. The nine court justices hold the position for life, but can step down from the job. 7,500 cases are sent to the supreme court, but only 80 to 100 are approved. Decisions made by the court stay the same unless the supreme court makes another decision. There is also one chiefe judge.

Greece: Secrets of the Past

Greece, a once great civilization now in ruin, is uncovered. Archaeologists uncover ruins on Santorini Island, a place where Atlantis is rumored to be, and Athens, named for Athena goddess of wisdom. Santorini Island was covered in the ash from a volcanic explosion. Athens was left in ruin because of the way it had spent itself.

Santorini Island was where the Greeks settled before finding the place they would call Athens. There has been findings of pictures from the walls of homes left destroyed. Some of the pictures told the Greeks' everyday lives such as picking fruit, or sailing in boats that were massive. The greatest mystery was how people survived, because no bodies were found, and some had to sail to Athens. When the volcano erupted, there was not only lava, there was enormous ash clouds that were toxic, and from the sea there were sixty foot waves, tsunamis, surrounding them. They could not escape, but they did. This is a great mystery to me.

Athens was Greece's main city. Named for the goddess Athena, it was the glory of Greece. The temple like structure on the acropolis cost Greek many fortunes. The Greek also battled many wars like the war with the Persians, the Peloponnesian War, and the Trojan War. As I said the Greeks were spent, I did not only mean money, I meant their many battles as well. They were depleted of their armies, and had little money left.

Today, Greece is a thriving country.. They have a navy as well as an air force. They are a prime tourist destination, with sixteen and a half million people visiting every year, and Greece is the favorite destination of travel in China and Austria. Greece's people speak Greek as their first or only language.

There are still so many secrets about Greece that we need to learn. Was Atlantis real? How did Greece get so powerful? These are some very interesting questions. Greece was a great influence to the world we know today.

Three Things

Idea number one is the idea of Mayan sacrifices. According to most websites there was human sacrifice. This website though (http://ambergriscaye.com/museum/digit14.html) says the sacrifices were painted blue, while the video says that they were painted red. So the video was mostly true.

Idea number two is architecture. I think that the video was true about everything surrounding architecture, but they did not go in depth about it. This source (http://www.crystalinks.com/mayanarch.html) has a lot of great facts on it, and has enough information to back up the video.

My last idea was how the Mayans vanished. The video is true 100% after reading this source (http://www.neatorama.com/2007/06/19/explaining-the-mystery-of-the-vanished-maya/). It really makes me think about what would happen if we ran out of trees.

Jamestown Nightmare Reflection

Jamestown, a colony in Virginia, to me was arguably the greatest success for America today. When the English sailed to Virginia they were expecting to find gold and an easy life there. They were struck with the complete opposite. There was illness, starvation, and the local Native Americans they had to struggle with before things started going their way. The colonists had a lot to handle.

Illness was a big threat to the colony. The colonists were falling ill mostly due to water and food. When the area around Jamestown was in drought the river turned to a swamp making the water in the river unsafe causing typhoid. Food could have been tainted with poison from Spanish spies or plain undercooked meat.

Starvation could have caused an even bigger problem in the colony. After months of arriving the colony was almost out of their its supply. At one time the men had resulted to cannibalism and eating their pets this time was called the starving time. John Smith, the colony's leader, decided to make a risky bargain with the Native Americans, he decided to trade trinkets in exchange for food. The Native American leader and his daughter, Pocahontas, were dazzled by them, so Pocahontas urged her father to trade which saved the colony.

The local Native American tribe was the biggest issue for the colony. When the colony arrived the tribe killed colonists causing the colony to build a large wall around their camp. The colony was trapped there. While the tribe did save the colony John Smith later had his leg almost blown off, and returned to England. After he left, the tribe waged war on the colony, during the time of starvation.

Even though this was a nightmare for the colonists there was a greater good on this. This was the start of America. The colony did survive, and then continued to branch out until America was formed. Without the colonists we wouldn't be here today.
